The track & field team of Severn Athletic Club has a busy schedule this summer. They started the season at the West Carroll Wings track on April 23rd, 2017 at Francis Scott Key HS and only one week later, they raced at the Randallstown Track. In may, the Highsteppers had a couple of races at the Glenarden’s Track and one at the Frederick Striders Track.
This month, June 2017, started with the Eldersburg Rogue Runners race at Century HS. They have to compete in the AAU District Qualifiers at Randallstown HS on June 10 and 11. Each athlete must pay a $20 fee to enter the competition.
The entry deadline was June 5th, 2017, so we hope you signed your child up for this competition already. Otherwise, you have to wait until the next year’s race. Always keep an eye on the official websites of these competitions to stay current with any changes that might occur. You don’t want to look your kid in the eye to tell him he can’t run this year because you forgot to sign him up.
After that, the Highsteppers must get ready for the AAU Regional Qualifiers that will be held at the Morgan State University on June 22-25. The top 16 athletes who compete in the MD District Championship are eligible to run in the Regional Qualifiers.
As you see, June is going to be a tough month for our little champions but after that, there are only 3 more races left this summer: one at Howard CCC on July 8th, one at Alexandria, VA on July 22nd, and then one last important competition: the AAU Junior Olympics at Ypsilanti, MI on July 29th-August 5th. The little runners must first get through the second part of June and then get ready for the AAU Junior Olympics, the one race that matters most. Good luck!
